Joel Bernard lucia, Sr

September 27, 1935 — January 30, 2017

Joel Bernard Lucia was born in Portland, Oregon to Ralph and Helen Lucia on September 27th, 1935. He was the oldest of 4 siblings, James Lucia, Katherine Thibert and William Lucia. Joel graduated from Columbia Preparatory School in 1953. He was accepted to University of Oregon and was a fullback on the football team. Joe was married to Marguerite O'Neil in 1955 and had 5 Children together; Margaret Lucia, Joel Lucia Jr., Thomas Lucia, Michael Lucia and Matthew Lucia. Joel was later married to Diane Lucia and had two more children Amy McClean and Mark Lucia. In 1981, he met Jeanne Lucia, in Seaside, Oregon and had three children; Stephen Lucia, Angela Babb and Scott Lucia. He learned to hunt with his uncle Walter Lucia and passed on those adventures to his children. He enjoyed spending his time fishing and clamming with his family. Joe loved football and was very involved in his children's sport during their high school years. Joe has worked many occupations over the years however, he was a General Contractor for residential construction in Seaside for over 30 years. He prided himself on the abundance of grandchildren and great grandchildren he had, and how proud he was of them. Joe is survived by Margaret Lucia, Joel Lucia Jr., Matthew Lucia, Amy McClean, Mark Lucia, Stephen, Lucia, Angela Babb and Scott Lucia. Also he is survived by 18 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Joe was preceded in death by his two sons Thomas and Michael Lucia, his parents Ralph & Helen Lucia and his wife Jeanne Lucia. He was a character in the community and you could always recognize him because he wore a cowboy hat every day and went to coffee regularly throughout town. He loved the Seaside community and his family. He will be dearly missed by all. A Service will be held at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church on Friday February 10th, 2017 at 10am.
