Coleman (Cody) Lloyd Harris

August 2, 1950 — April 17, 2015

Coleman (Cody) Lloyd Harris Jr. was born in Astoria, Oregon to his parents Coleman Harris and Dorothy Wilson on August 2, 1950. He was raised in Astoria, where he attended church and schools. He graduated from Astoria High School in 1969 and earned his degree at Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Oregon in 1971. He married his high school sweetheart, Cheryl Turner, in 1971 in the Oakland Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Cody began his lifelong career in law enforcement when he enlisted in the United States Air Force Military Police that same year and served in England where their first child was born. After his honorable discharge from the USAF in 1975, Cody and Cheryl made their family home in Astoria and were blessed with three more children. As a law enforcement officer he received numerous commendations and awards for his service including the American Legion Citation for Meritorious Service and the Clatsop County Sheriff Department Certificate for Distinguished Service. Cody enjoyed many happy times with his family and friends. He loved scuba diving, fishing, hunting, and walking along the beach looking for clams, and doing the family shopping. He enjoyed being able to travel in the motor home to many scenic locations throughout the western United States. He completed his training as a private pilot in 1997 and soared to even greater heights in his 1966 Cessna Skyhawk 172. He was an active member of the Church in which he served as Cub Scout leader, Sunday School President, and Stake Missionary. Cody was predeceased by his parents, his other father, Charles Turner and beloved daughter-in-law, Maria.
