David (Dave) Lee Blodgett, husband, father, grandfather (Bappa), and great-grand Bappa, passed away peacefully at his home in Seaside, OR, on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at the age of 71.
He was born in Tillamook, OR, on December 9, 1953, to Lee A. and Anne (Anderson) Blodgett.
Dave grew up in Gresham, OR, where he attended Gresham High School and was a Shriner’s Center and a Junior Winterhawk. He graduated in June 1972. He immediately enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, where he served from June 9, 1972, to June 8, 1976, when he was honorably discharged. He was stationed in Astoria all four years of service.
In July 1973, he married Karen Schatzel in Hillsboro, OR. They resided in Clatsop County for the entire 51 years of marriage. They raised four children- Andy, Max, Peter, and Vicki.
Dave had many accomplishments and had the ability to teach himself just about anything. He worked at Fisher Bros from 1976 to 1979 as a hydraulic construction repairman, salesman, and clerk. At this time, he was also a reserve police officer with the City of Warrenton, while simultaneously attending Clatsop Community College to achieve his BA in criminal justice, which he earned in 1981. He was subsequently a police officer for the City of Warrenton and for the City of Astoria until 1986. He then worked at Bio-Products for 15 years as a warehouse supervisor and production cost analyst. He began working at Columbia Memorial Hospital in the IT department in 2001, from which he retired in 2017.
Dave was a member of Warrenton 1st Baptist Church for 30 years and was currently attending Coastline Christian Fellowship in Astoria, OR. He was also a proud member of The Gideon's International for 5 years.
He loved spending time with family and friends. If not out camping or RVing, then it was watching a sporting event or just hanging out. His other interests were his self-employed IT consulting company, photography, fishing, watching Sci-fi programs, motorcycles,4-wheeling, coaching, organizing church family camps, and watching sports on TV.
Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Karen; his children- Andy (Dezeray), Max (Summer), Peter (Tiffanie), and Vicki. Known as “Bappa” to his 9 grandchildren- Niquilla (Alan) Martinez, Cyrus Blodgett, Haleigh Blodgett, London Blodgett, Katelynn (Jimmy) Malby, Morgan Blodgett, Ellisa Blodgett, Brooklyn Blodgett, and Barett Blodgett. Also known as Great Bappa by 5 great grandchildren: Raelynn, Scarlett, Freya and Hendrix Malby and Bowen Blodgett.
