Donald Louis Nolan

January 10, 1938 — May 8, 2026

Gearhart

Donald Louis Nolan was born on January 10, 1938, in a farmhouse on Spotted Road in Clayton, Washington. He was the youngest of eleven children born to Cloyd and Ida Nolan. After graduating from high school in Spokane, Washington, Don enlisted in the United States Coast Guard on May 6, 1955. He proudly served for more than 31 years, retiring on January 31, 1987, as a Chief Warrant Officer 4. Throughout his career, he received numerous commendations for his dedicated service.

On June 6, 1958, Don married the love of his life, Nancy Ann Foster, in Spokane, Washington, after being set up on a blind date. Their life together took them to duty stations across the country as they raised their sons, eventually settling in Gearhart, Oregon.
Donald passed away peacefully at home in the early hours of May 8, 2026, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, all eleven of his siblings, and his great-granddaughter, River. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy; his sons, Patrick (Tamela) and Thad (Becky); his grandchildren, Chauncey (Allison), Joshua, Ashley, Chad (Holly), and Kyle (Brittany); and his great-grandchildren, Corbin, Willow, Joseph, Tommy, Harper, Ryder, Wolfgang, and Ember, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

“Dad was deeply loved and admired by all who knew him. He will be missed beyond words. We love you, Dad.”
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Shannon Marsh, FNP, for her many years of compassionate care, and to Lower Columbia Hospice, especially Don’s nurse, Joey, for their support over the past nine months.
