Hazel Louise Turner

August 5, 1930 — June 4, 2025

Astoria

Hazel Louise Turner passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025, at the age of 94, just shy of her 95th birthday. Born on August 5, 1930, in Red Lodge, Montana, Hazel lived a life defined by unwavering devotion, quiet strength, and boundless love.

Hazel was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Billie Joe Turner, with whom she shared 63 wonderful years of marriage, and by her daughter, Terry Ann Wilson.

She is survived by her daughter, Irma Gibbs, and son-in-law, George Gibbs; her son, Michael Turner, and daughter-in-law, Wanda Turner; eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

A proud and compassionate caregiver, Hazel worked for many years as an LPN at the Libby Care Center, where she offered gentle care and heartfelt connection to those she served. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was a long-time member of Christ Lutheran Church in Libby, Montana.

Hazel's story was one of enduring love and steady commitment. During a visit to Sandpoint, Idaho, she met a young man named Billie Joe Turner. He soon traveled to Red Lodge to ask for her hand in marriage, and they were wed on September 27, 1947, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. The couple built a life together in Sandpoint, where they began raising their children before settling in Libby, Montana in 1953.

In 2016, Hazel moved to Kent, Washington, to live with her son and daughter-in-law, who welcomed the opportunity to care for her in her later years. In 2020, they all relocated to Warrenton, Oregon, to be closer to family.

Hazel was devoted, kind, and full of warmth. Small in stature but mighty in spirit, she carried a feisty pride in her height and an even greater pride in the family she loved so fiercely.

At Hazel's request, there will be no formal services. Cremation will be handled by Hughes-Ransom Mortuary and Crematory.

Her legacy lives on in every person she loved and cared for, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew
