John R. Wilson of Astoria, formerly of Hammond, Oregon died at home on October 4, 2025.
John was born to Henry and Lillian Kugel on November, 19, 1941. He was later adopted by Raymond C. Wilson when he married Lillian after Henry was killed during action in France in WWII. John grew up on Skyline Hill in Portland and attended Scappoose High School. He married Sue Wilson on December 5, 1964 in Stevenson, Washington. The family moved to Hammond in 1965 when John started working on the Astoria Megler Bridge as a union carpenter. He later worked for Roy Duoos Construction for many years and then managed Columbia Point Apartments in Hammond. John's favorite activities were hunting and fishing with his family and friends, but he mostly loved attending his grandson's sporting events. He enjoyed senior lunches at the Warrenton Community Center where he also served on the board.
John is survived by his wife Sue, daughter Jackie Dillard, daughter Carla Clayton and her husband Duane, daughter Brenda Bannister, son John Wilson and his wife Tracy, brothers Morris and Mike Wilson and sister Norma Barber. He is survived by grandchildren Christopher DeFrance, Stephanie DeFrance, Aleaha Bannister, Dane Brown, Crystal Brown, Brandon Clayton, Darin Clayton, Luke Wilson, Hunter Wilson, Odin Wilson, Duke Wilson and Wally Wilson. Great Grandchildren: Aiden, Avery, Dexter, Trevor, Devin, Bradley, Cole, Kennedy, Braxton, Calvin, Jessie June and Wade. John was preceded in death by a son Jesse Wilson, parents Raymond and Lillian and sisters Carolyn and Lynn.
A celebration of John's life will be held on November 8th from 2-4 PM at Camp Kiwanilong in Warrenton, Oregon.
