Justin Joseph Kuhn was born on March 12, 1924 in Victoria, Kansas and entered into eternal life on March 21, 2013 in Seaside, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, his parents Margaret and Nicholas Kuhn and siblings Sophie, Edwin, Remigius, George, William, Nicholas, Angeline and Sylvester, Daughter Elsie Ann Caldwell and grandsons Orren Caldwell and Justin Shirk.
Justin served with distinction in the Army from June of 1943 to April of 1946, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He was deployed to Germany during World War II. He and Mary Lynn LAmoreaux were married June 10, 1948 in Victoria, KS and spent forty happy years together before her death in 1988. Their marriage was blessed with six children, twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
For thirty-six years, Justin worked for Halliburton, braving blistering summers and frigid winters in the oil fields of both Kansas and Wyoming. He was the recipient of numerous safety awards during these years. In 1984 Justin retired and he and Mary moved to the Oregon coast.
Justin was a devout Catholic, and served both Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pratt, KS, and St Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church in Arch Cape, OR. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus.
An enthusiastic card player, Justin taught his children, grandchildren, and many unsuspecting friends the game of "Durak". For many years Justin enjoyed playing golf. During his retirement in Oregon he often took long walks on Cannon Beach with his dog, Spud.
Surviving are brother Charles of Denver, CO; special companion Lore Ing, Seaside, OR; children Diana Marie Kuhn of Topeka, KS; Sandra Lee (Tomas D) Shirk of Seaside, OR; Rory Dean (Susan K. Gardner) Kuhn of Bonner Springs, KS; Laurie Gayle (Roy M.) Straub of Castle Rock, CO; and Hilary Jil Armor, Stuart, FL; grandchildren Layle Fritts, PA; Jacob Shirk, OR; Jordyn Shirk, HI; Jonathan Shirk, CO; Jacquei Shirk, Eric Kuhn and Stacey Tonovitz, KS; Barrett Straub, MT; and Reid Armor, FL and Addison Armor, FL.
Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 4th, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church in Arch Cape, Oregon at 2:00pm.
