Larry Edward Gore passed away on October 16, 2023 with his wife of almost 49 years by his side. He was living in Astoria Oregon at the time.
Larry was born on February 18, 1945 in Lewistown Montana. The youngest of four siblings, there was never a shortage of people wanting to help care for him after his mother passed away during childbirth.
Always wanting to help others, he served in the US Army in the medical corps during the Vietnam war. It was his assignment at Ft Simmons Army Hospital where he grew to love Colorado.
He met his wife Marlene at work-using his sense of humor and tenacity to eventually get himself a date- even if it cost him his job. He would have agreed it was a worthy trade.
After she nursed him back to health after a car accident, they decided to make it official in Cheyenne Wyoming with a justice of the peace who was late for a tee time. Three states and 39 years later, they retired in Oregon so he could see the water every day and never shovel snow again.
Larry’s work ethic didn’t stop in his retirement- an Exalted Ruler for the Seaside Elks, a trolley operator in Astoria, and a board member for the Senior Center were just some of his activities. He loved watching the boats on the Columbia and identifying them on his app. He loved puzzles, Pinochle, Sudoku, and complex mental calculations. He was always right.
Larry was a lot of things in life: loving husband, caring brother, supportive father, and the biggest Bronco fan. He will be missed every Sunday, and all the other days too.
He is preceded in death by parents Clyde and Velma Gore, sisters Myrna Quick, Carol Korpela, Lorraine Surdal and brother Bob Ludeman. He will be missed by wife Marlene, son Micheal (Cathy) Nilsson, daughters Stephanie Stacey and Whitney (Sean) Gore, great aunt Sue Jennings, brothers Gary Gore and Russ (Karin) Ludeman and many friends across the Western states.
