Laverne Lee Henry

October 13, 1931 — May 14, 2025

Astoria

Lavern “Lee” Henry, 93, of Astoria, Oregon, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Neawanna by the Sea in Seaside, Oregon.

Born on October 13, 1931, in Alabama Center, New York, Lee was the son of the late Edward J. and Beatrice V. (Derwick) Henry. A proud veteran of the United States Army, Lee served honorably as an aircraft and helicopter mechanic. His military career was marked by bravery and dedication. He was awarded the Purple Heart on May 5, 1968, for wounds sustained during the Vietnam War, and later received the Bronze Star for his role in the evacuation of U.S. personnel in 1975.

On December 19, 1954, Lee married the love of his life, Ruth. Their time together was cut short by her passing on November 1, 1966, but her memory remained close to his heart. Though they had no children, Lee built a quiet and fulfilling life in Astoria following his retirement from the Army, where he lived for over 40 years.

Lee was the last surviving of five siblings and was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald and Robert Henry, and his sisters, Patricia Henry and Joanne Henry.

Lee will be remembered for his service, his resilience, and the simple, steady life he led in the Pacific Northwest after his years of military duty.
