Stella Irene Norgaard

May 28, 1920 — March 12, 2013

Stella Irene Norgaard died peacefully at her residence in Astoria, Oregon, on Tuesday, March 12, 2013. She was 92.
Mrs. Norgaard was born in Astoria, at the Astor Hotel, on May 28, 1920, to John and Sophie Kallunki. She grew up in Salmon Creek logging camp in Deep River, Washington, and graduated from Naselle High School in 1938.
She met and married her husband, Ragnar Norgaard, on August 31, 1940, in Astoria. They celebrated 69 years of marriage before Ragnar passed away in 2010. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sonja Norgaard.
Stella devoted her life to her husband and family. She took great pride in creating a warm, loving home for her family and friends. She loved baking, and many people are lucky enough to remember her famous "Finn" bread.
She enjoyed gardening, and was a very active woman. She walked 1,600 miles on her treadmill before turning it in for a new model. She could often be seen walking around town with her beloved dog by her side, visiting friends along the way. She had a passion for animals, and had many pets over the years that brought joy and laughter to her. She was loved by many, and will be sorely missed.
She is survived by a daughter, Penny Rodgers of Astoria; grandsons, Darren (and wife, Dar) Rodgers of Portland, Oregon, Bryce Rodgers of Astoria, Oregon, Brent (and wife, Lonni) Williams of Bend, Oregon, and Brian Williams (and wife, Fariba) Norgaard of Mansfield, Texas; great-grandsons, Luke and Jake Rodgers of Portland, Oregon, Kristian Rodgers of Astoria, Drew Williams of Seattle, Washington, and Dustin (and wife, Michelle) Williams of Bend, Oregon; great-granddaughter, Saidelle Williams Norgaard of Mansfield, Texas; and a sister, Audrey Allen of Naselle, Washington.
Graveside services will be held at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton on Friday, March 22, at 1 p.m. Following the services, a Celebration of Life will be held at the Clatsop Retirement Village in Astoria.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Clatsop County Animal Shelter or to the Clatsop Retirement Village.
